Terracotta tiles need to be sprayed with chemical and then pressured cleaned with a turbo nozzle but with not too much pressure or they will be damaged.

    Colourbond roof cleaning involves using a surface cleaner at about 2500psi and occasionally involves the application of chemical solutions for stubborn mould. Our surface cleaner does not have the wheels attached like some competitors do because this may scratch your roof.

    What is Growing on Your Roof?

    Sometimes you may wonder what those black streaks and green furry blotches on your roof are from. It is a type of algae called Gloeocapsa Magma that feeds on concrete and terracotta roof tiles. It is a type of algae that thrives in humid and warm climates such as ours here in Brisbane.

    Rain then spreads the algae down the roof causing the black streaks. The black streaks are very likely to harbor a number of moulds or fungi. Fungi normally begin their life cycle as an airborne spore that settles on roofs, especially the terracotta tiles. The spores on the southern side of the roof stand a better chance of survival because that area of the roof is the last part to dry after a rain due to the shade. This raises the humidity on the surface of the tile, thus creating a perfect feeding and breeding ground for mould or fungi.

    Soft wash roof cleaning and roof pressure cleaning are two very separate techniques with very distinct equipment. Pressure cleaning a roof takes years off the roof’s life. Pressure from the unit in the Softwash Cleaning System has very little to do with the end result. A Softwash System only delivers about 60 P.S.I, as much as a household garden hose. Most importantly, our cleaning method has been used for many years and has been proven safe and effective for, cleaning tiles, and metal roofs. It could prolong the life of you roof while saving you money. If you prefer the old fashioned method of roof cleaning using high pressure equipment we do also offer that service.
